"My sister is fighting." "My brother was mobilized." "My husband is injured." "My father is in captivity." "And mine went missing." "His body cannot be found." "She buried her lover yesterday"... These fragments of other people's conversations form a coherent text about our present, in which someone from the closest circle is fighting. And this, unfortunately, is quite natural for such a large-scale defensive war: our army is not a product of the military system, but rather an army of civilian defenders, united by the desire to live freely in their own country, to defend their home, to protect their own.
At least 700,000 Ukrainians joined the ranks of the Ukrainian army. Teachers, builders, entrepreneurs, writers and doctors - in the trenches along the front line you can meet representatives of all professions. Suddenly they all became military, and this is now perhaps the most respectable of professions. That is why we dedicate this issue of the printed magazine to our defenders. We want to thank them for their courage and dignity and show readers the war as the military themselves see it.
