On the night of August 31 to September 1, 2008, eleven people committed suicide in a small town on the poor and isolated east coast of Greenland. The suicides spread like an epidemic, affecting all social classes and age groups in the town, whose residents seemed to "become infected from a single touch or glance." At first glance, these suicides seemed unrelated: only a few of the deceased were vaguely acquainted. But the observer wonders: "Is it not a mistake to assume that an individual's life matters only in and of itself - just as a single person's death makes sense independently of other people?"

The novel "Anatomy of a Night" tells the story of the last hours of eleven people's lives, as well as about Greenland, a harsh country filled to the brim with cold and loneliness, but also with comforting charms. In her narrative, Anna Kim meticulously and vividly traces the twists and turns of life stories and answers the question of why everything had to happen exactly that way on that night.

Warning! This book contains detailed scenes of violence and suicide.
