The book "The Street of the Involved"

Vira Kuryko's documentary book is a literary reportage about ordinary Soviet people (neighbors, friends, colleagues, new accidental acquaintances) whom the system used to re-convict the dissident Levko Lukyanenko when he lived with his first wife in Chernihiv. Who are they, and do they remember their, at first glance, unremarkable actions and words?

Are the people who contributed to the imprisonment of the dissident Levko Lukyanenko ready today to accept new conditions, just as they accepted the previous ones, and to live in a city where one of the most important streets can be named after a person whom the Soviet authorities so feared and whose destruction involved everyone who did not resist? This is the second augmented edition: what happened in the next six years after the events described in the book? In 2020, the book won the "LitAktsent of the Year" book prize and was shortlisted for the "BBC Book of the Year."
