Memento Mori, a Latin phrase meaning "remember death," became not only a catchphrase but also a Christian philosophy of life. Initially, death was perceived as a natural part of the life cycle, which would inevitably happen to everyone, and in the end, all people would face it equally. However, in later times, especially after the plague epidemic, the reminder of mortality took on a more disturbing character: death began to be imagined as a powerful and inexorable force. The emphasis gradually shifted from the idea of justice and equality to inevitability and cruelty.
