The armet is a type of knight's helmet that was developed in the 15th century. It was notable for being the first helmet of its era that completely covered the head, but was quite compact and light, and did not restrict the wearer's movements.
Since the armet was completely closed and had constrictions that followed the contours of the neck and throat, it had to have mechanical means of opening and closing.
